You Beauty Advent Calendar Day 7

Today has been so hectic, but I managed to get a real Christmas tree, in a pot and it’s five foot tall. Winner. I was really happy with today’s offering, a gorgeous pair of blue tweezers from the vintage cosmetics company. I’ve tried a set of eyelash curlers from them previously, and although I don’t use them often any more due to a bad experience they are great.

The bad experience was around 3 years ago, my home football team (Ross County FC) somehow made it to the Scottish Cup Final and I was going to see them play at Hampden. Casually curling my eyelashes with my trusty FCUK curlers, which were amazing, as they were tiny and were great for doing the corners of the eyelashes, when to my dismay they shattered. Yes people, the eyelash curlers snapped into about a gazillion pieces. Okay, it was around 8 pieces, one of which decided to lodge itself nicely in my eye. Being a hardened Scot, I soldiered on and went to the football, only for County to loose. To add insult to injury, I dropped by uni to ask my boyfriend to acompany me to A and E as it’s really not a place for the faint hearted on a Saturday night in Glasgow (and true enough, there was several bloodied men from a bar brawl) and his mates started referring to me as pirate eye Grey. Eventually after about 4 hours I was taken and some lovely yellow stuff squirted in my eye, beautifully staining the skin. Excellent. I then got some crazy ointment to put on my eye for the next week to reduce pain/swelling/heal the scratch. Not really sure, I’m not a nurse and it’s all a bit hazy. Anyway, the moral of this story, is never use plastic eyelash curlers. The vintage cosmetic company ones are metal, but I still don’t trust them.

I tried these tweezers out earlier and they are definitely as good as my tweezerman, although I prefer the leopard print pattern on those. These will be relegated to my going away/spare bag for when I loose my tweezerman, which believe me is a frequent occurrence, only for them to reappear days later in my sock drawer/under the bed/on the downstairs toilet cistern. I swear those tweezers walk.

Spend over Β£40 and recieve a free pink lash and brow brush from the vintage cosmetics company.

Have you tried any of the vintage cosmetics company products? Do you use eyelash curlers or are you too scared like me? What are your favourite tweezers or do you feel they are just tweezers?

  1. That eyelash curler story sounds hideous! I’ve had a Miss Makeup pair for years and will now heed your warning about plastic eyelash curlers! Scary. Congrats on going to the football though. One day we’ll win the lottery and have season tickets and shu uemara eyelash curlers and it’ll all be fine xx

    • One day I will become a wag and get hospitality at every game followed by Cristal champagne. It was hideous, there’s probably a reason most eyelash curlers are metal. Shu uemara is the dream. Just got my Christmas tree, it almost shredded my arms decorating it (I’ve never had a real one before) xx

      • I was “captain wag” at university, as my boyfriend was captain of the college a-team, but there was no cristal there, alas. Boyf worked in the bar at Old Trafford this Summer though (he’s Mancunian), and when the bar was empty during the match, they were allowed to go and sit in empty corporate boxes. So cool! One day I’ll have my own πŸ˜‰ awwh will there be pictures? I bet your house smells amazing now, ours definitely does! xx

        • You could have worse names. I was just known as the formula student girl, as I was the only girl at one point that did it. That would be quite cool to get to watch the match like that. Well the tree is a bit of a riot and mix match and the house just smells like cider. Woody is such a lightweight he passed out on the sofa haha. I think it’s tiredness and not the cider. Xx

          • Well I was also “the cheesy chips girl” in first year, after drunkenly dropping some cheesy chips on the pavement, trying to pick them up, falling over, and then rolling around in a pile of chips shouting “ten second rule! ten second rule!” That was somewhat less flattering πŸ˜€ passing out on the sofa sounds much more dignified! Cider is deceptive though, it goes to your head! Still, a nice Christmassy smell, no? xx

            • Haha good effort. And ten seconds? Really? It’s seven where I come from. I love chips and cheese after a night out. Or a Greggs sausage roll. I guess it is a bit Christmassy. We have a hedgehog, bird, penguin and polar bear on the tree, it’s so random but I like it xx

            • I think it varies between five and fifteen across the UK! I love chips and cheese too, or a happy meal if I’m somewhere with a McDonalds. Or a small margherita. But never a kebab! Awwh your tree sounds adorable! I always think they’re much nicer if you have lots of different things dangling off them. The hedgehog sounds sooo cute! My sister and I get a new bauble from santa each year so we have quite a lot of different things now – fairies, rocking horses, little Christmas trees. Baubles are amazing πŸ˜€ xx

            • Fifteen seconds is definitely too long! Although to be fair, I dropped a pizza taking it out the oven at uni and it landed cheese side up luckily. I was so hungry I ate it and it probably was on the floor for longer than fifteen seconds. The floor was pretty clean thankfully. Kebabs are awful, I don’t know how people can eat them. In Greece they do amazing kebabs, which are actual chunks of pork or chicken in a Pitta with salad and tzatiki, but doner isn’t even real meat. Yucky. Awh that sounds really nice, and it is something you could carry on through the generations. I’ve abandoned the boyfriend on the sofa and gone to bed. So mean xx

            • Oooh those Greek versions sound tasty! Yeah doner kebabs are horrible, sometimes my boyfriend has one when he’s drunk and regrets it every time! I had a nibble once just to see what it was like, and it was horrible – so peppery! I think you’re being kind leaving him on the sofa. That way he can sleep through πŸ™‚ the journey from sofa to bed is a longer one than it seems. Also would’ve totally eaten that pizza too. Je ne regrette rien xx

            • I’ve never had a doner, I don’t eat lamb. But I know some places offer beef versions, but they just look so wrong. It honestly looks to me like a poo on a stick. It’s horrible. The Greek ones are amazing. I want to go back lo Greece just for them, but will have to settle on the Greek restaurants. I’m in the bad books today for leaving him. Oops. Xxx

              Like

            • Hahaha poo on a stick! Yes they are disgusting. I don’t really eat lamb either – I’m not a red meat person particularly. Yes sadly Greek restaurants will have to do for now. Never mind, some are very good. Sorry you’re in the bad books haha, I’m sure with some more Christmassy antics (and maybe a fry up?) he’ll feel much better! Xx

            • I’m not big on red meat either. I had a homemade beef burger on Thursday and it’s still playing havoc with my stomach.
I just made him some berries for breakfast, I say made, but really it was washed and put in a bowl haha. I have so many things I want to blog about today, I really can’t decide xx

              Like

            • At least it was home made? Even the best kind of beef ruins us. How tragic! Oooh I’d love some berries right now, what a delicious breakfast that must’ve been. Haha same I’ve got so many to do! Might have a bath and test out today’s advent calendar gift, and I’ve taken photos for the storage post you requested, so I’ll write that and schedule it for Saturday. Then there’s the perfect palette tag from thebeautydeputy, Christmas decorations, a L’Occitane soap I got for my birthday…I think the trick is to write when you feel like it and then keep scheduling the next week πŸ™‚ xx

            • Apparently we are having bacon too. Yay. Yeah red meat is just too heavy and gives me a bad tummy. Looking forward to storage post too. I have so many photos to edit and I have so many blogs to read too. The oil smells amazing doesn’t it? I’m excited to try it. Looking forward to your storage post πŸ™‚ I don’t have enough palettes to do that tag as I literally only had one or two xx

              Like

            • Yeah exactly, too heavy is definitely the problem. Dad keeps asking to have pork instead of Turkey on Christmas Day because he’s “bored” of Turkey, but I have to put my foot down haha. Yes the oil smells so good! Can’t wait to give it a go. I’ve improvised with the palettes post as I only have Naked and a quad from a Clinique free gift, so am putting in some that I’ve seen other bloggers try out, like the Smashbox Wondervision (if only I owned that…), and one or two from my sister’s collection. It’s more of a wishful thinking than a review post in my case! Xx

            • I have naked basics, which I’ve been meaning to review and I love love love it. I now want to buy all the other nakeds. My parents tried that trick before, but I said I must have Turkey. Can’t beat Turkey. Xx

              Like

            • Definitely can’t beat turkey. Parents are such jokers. Also, I ate so much last Christmas that I had to have a nap. On my side. If I ate heavy red meat it would be a total disaster! Jealous of your Naked basics – I’ve had Naked for a couple years now so have used all the basics shades to death! If only they did top ups…I watched a Zoella vlog on youtube yesterday, and Urban Decay sent her all three naked palettes, in a big box which looked like a giant naked palette. It was the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen xx

              Like

            • Awh that sounds amazing. I would recommend the basics as its really compact and has pretty much all the shades you need to highlight, line and shadow. Maybe one day I will own them all xx

              Like

            • Oh gosh it’s so tempting…maybe I’ll get that if I properly run out of my favourite Naked shades. The highlight one – Virgin – is so nice. I’d love all three Naked palettes but they are quite similar. Naked 3 has more pinky/rose gold tones which I’m not sure would suit me on the eyes, but I really like Naked 2. They’re all so pretty! Xx

            • Naked basics doesn’t have any of the same shades of naked. I will put my review us later today if I have time. What put me off the original naked was the flocked velvet case. Also I see debenhams have money off beauty just now, wish I had waited to buy it xx

              Like

            • On yeah I hate that – velvet always makes my nails hurt, for whatever reason! It’s also in a right old state now, being such a well-loved palette. Yes that 15% off cosmetics is deadly! I’ve been resisting hard! Xx

    • Oooh good idea! I’m only wrapping Boyf’s presents – I’m visiting next weekend and might not see him again before xmas so we’re swapping then and opening on Christmas Day. Needs must! πŸ™‚ xx

      • We’re used to it at Christmas πŸ™‚ yeah I’m sure I will. We usually see each other every four to six weeks, but my train was over an hour late last time, so I got my money back. Free visit! Woohooo xx

        Like

        • Oh that sucks with the train being late, but great you got a refund. It used to be a virgin train I got to see woody and I either had one or two changes, so if any train was late I missed my connection. Once it was the last connection but they held the train for me πŸ™‚ and four to six weeks really isn’t ideal, but I bet when you do see him it’s nice. I think long distance can make a relationship stronger xx

          Like

          • Mine are usually greater anglia or East Midlands, although that will change now Boyf’s in Bristol. Now I have to go via London, which could be interesting! Most train companies will give you all your money back if you’re over 60 minutes late. If a late train means you miss a connection (which it usually does, let’s face it) you usually have to take the one the next hour, so get home an hour late πŸ˜€ its a stressful faff but with trains being so expensive now, it’s quite good. I love that Virgin held the train for you, so kind of them! I think long distance definitely makes you stronger in some ways, yes πŸ™‚ xx

            Like

            • Ooh changing at London will be horrible, especially if you have to change stations? If they hadn’t held the train for me, I would of had to taxi from Birmingham to rugby. Hope your boyfriend likes his pressies. And Bristol is meant to be cool, I really need to find an excuse to go there xx

              Like

          • Yep, I go into Liverpool street, tube it for a bit, and then head out again from Paddington. They give you an hour’s leeway which is good, but I hate doing it because I hate the tube. All the dust gets in my contact lenses and it’s just ew. Ouch, Birmingham to Rugby taxi would not have been good! It only costs Β£4 to do that journey by train too, I stayed with my sister in Brum once before going to a friend’s party in rugby, was ideal! Yeah I’m so excited to go to Bristol. I love adventuring to new places. Thanks, I hope he likes them too! Will have to wait until Christmas Day to find out hehe xx

  2. That eyelash story sounds horrible! Ouch! I recently threw my elf eye lash curler away because I felt like it was too wide for my eye. I was thinking about getting a new one but now I’m scared to after reading that.
