My Best of Beauty 2013

My Best of Beauty 2013

I was tagged over a week ago to do this by Brittany over at the Beauty Deputy, so here goes. Please excuse some of the bad quality photos, I struggled with lighting. I also won’y be tagging anyone to do this as I am quite late to the party, but if anyone wants to do it, please let me know. Alternatively if you have done this tag already, link me in the comments so I can read yours. P.S I know half my photos are watermarked, half aren’t. I used to watermark, but I stopped doing it recently, so the older ones are watermarked.

Benefit Porefessional Primer

Benefit Porefessional Primer

1. Primer

The Porefessional Primer by Benefit – reviewed here

I love this primer. It applies so smoothly onto my skin, smells great and actually helps with my skin tone. I know it isn’t mean to, but it has a slight tint that I find balances my skin tone out. This also does a great job at keeping foundation in place. Oh did I mention it minimises pores too?

Bare Minerals Original SPF 15 Foundation in Medium Beige

2. Foundation

BareMinerals Original SPF15 Foundation in Medium Beige

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this yet! The pictures are sitting uploaded and waiting. This is my all time favourite foundation. It doesn’t look cakey and can be built up for more coverage where needed. This also doesn’t clog pores and is so ‘good’ you can sleep in it. I’ve gone through countless tubs of this and always have a backup in my stash.

Benefit FakeUp concealer in Medium

3. Concealer

Benefit FakeUp Concealer in Medium – reviewed here

This is brilliant for under eyes. It doesn’t have as much coverage as Boing, but is very hydrating. I got this in medium and it is a tad dark for under eyes, but it blends so well. I love this so much and will definitely re purchase.

BareMinerals Mineral Veil

4. Powder

BareMinerals Original Mineral Veil

Again I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this. You can probably tell I am a massive BM fan and have gone through so many tubs of this. It is awesome for setting makeup and I even have the ready one for on the go touch ups. The powder is so light and fine milled and doesn’t cling to dry patches.

Benefit Sun Beam

5. Bronzer

Benefit Sun Beam Highlighter – reviewed here

Not technically a bronzer, but a golden toned highlighter but I have been using this in place of my trusty BareMinerals Faux Tan bronzer which ran out over the summer. I like the subtle glow this gives me.

Benefit Fine One One

6. Blush

Benefit Fine One One – reviewed here

So it seems Benefit and BareMinerals are sweeping the board here. I suppose that’s testimony to how great they are, but I really need to try Nars, Mac, Elf, Sleek and MUA. 2014 will be the year of trying. I like this blush because it is so easy to apply and gives a nice healthy glow. It is a shame it doesn’t last longer, but a great little product none the less. I was initially scared about how bright it looked, but it blends well.

Laura Geller Baked Highlighter in French Vanilla

7. Highlighter

Laura Geller Baked Highlighter in French Vanilla

This pale toned offering from Laura Geller is great for the brow bone. I don’t like it so much on my cheek bones, but my Fine One One takes care of that. This is a powder, but applies well and blends easily. I think this has the perfect amount of shimmer.

Rimmel Brow Pencil in Black

8. Brows

Rimmel Eyebrow Pencil in Black

This isn’t black, it is dark brown. I have very thick, bushy and dark eyebrows so don’t really need brow products. I have had this for years and use it when I decided to change my brow shape. I also have a tiny bald patch on one end, so will occasionally use this to fill it in. It doesn’t snag the skin and is really easy to apply.

Urban Decay Naked Basics

9. Eyeshadow Palette

Urban Decay Naked Basics – reviewed here

I love this and how versatile it is. The shadows are well pigmented and apply so smoothly. It covers all the bases for neutral eyes from line to highlight to crease. Well worth the investment.

Bodyshop Eyeliner in Black

10. Eyeliner

Bodyshop Eye Definer in Black

I’ve gone through one of these already and will probably finish this one too. I don’t often wear eyeliner, but when I do it is either black, dark brown or grey and more often than not I reach for this. I picked this up in the sale and I am glad I did. It is really creamy and wears really well.

Givenchy Noir Couture Mascara

Givenchy Noir Couture Mascara

11. Mascara

Givenchy Noir Couture

I got a sample of this in Debenhams and I love it. Maybe even more than Benefit Bad Gal. It doesn’t clump, wears well and lengthens my lashes. What more do you want?

Urban Decay Love Child

Urban Decay Love Child

12. Lip Pencil

Urban Decay Super Saturated in Lovechild

Okay this might be cheating, but it is a pencil and does go on your lips right? Super creamy, pigmented and a suits all shade. Loving this latest addition to my stash from UD.

Initially I wasn’t that taken with this, but after using it over the top of a balm, I like the colour and staying power much better. And it was half price.

Philosophy The Ginger Bread Man

14. Lipgloss

This had lain in my stash for ages, being neglected but I rediscovered it. I love the high gloss shine and the ginger smell. Mmm.

15.Beauty Subscription

You Beauty Advent Calendar – reviewed here

Not technically a subscription box, but sold by a company who make subscription boxes. I loved most of the products and it was amazing value for money. Highly recommend this next year.

16. Perfume

Giorgio Armani Remix for Her

This has been a favourite of mine for a few years and I really like the stylish bottle. It smells fresh and I always get compliments when wearing it. My bottle was too bashed up to photograph.

L'Occitaine Lip Balm

17. Lip Balm

L’Occitaine Lip Balm

This is really hydrating and makes a great base for lipstick. I am almost finished this tube, so will have to stock up.

Virgin Vie Eyes

18. Eyeshadow Brush

Virgin Vie Eyes

Yup, Viggin Vie. I have had this for donkeys and it has been washed countless times and it still going strong. It is still soft and fluffy and picks up just the right amount of shadow. Shame they went bust.

I know the descriptions are short, but I didn’t want the post to become too long. If you want any of these reviewed in detail, just let me know.

What are your favourite products? Have you tried any of my favourites?

  1. Ooops! I forgot to do this tag, so thanks for the reminder! And also thank you again for introducing me to the You Beauty Advent Calendar, it was so good! All your favourites look brill, and that gingerbread gloss is adorable! Would love to sample that mascara too. Accidental wishlist forming in my head now…xx

    • I got the mascara sample in a goody bag from debenhams. No idea why they gave me it but I’m loving it. It’s definitely a contender for my favourite. Thanks.
Can’t wait to read your tag xx

        • Yeah it was free. It had this, a mini philosophy microdelivery face wash which I had a full size before and loved. A mini balance me moisturiser and some face mask thing and a rituals shower gel. I did spend a couple of hundred quid on beauty as I was doing Christmas shopping so maybe that’s why. Number 7 really hasn’t impressed me, except the eyeshadow xx

          • Wowww that’s incredible! I got a Lancome freebie bag when I bought my sister’s Christmas present from Debenhams but have never got a multi-brand one before. That’s so cool! And yes Number 7 is poo xx

            • It was a small plastic bag with these thrown in so I reckon it was stuff they wanted rid of.
I know the higher end brands like estee, clinique etc often offer free bags but I’ve never bought anything to get one. I love a good freebie xx

            • Me too, but they’re so rare! I don’t usually buy things just for the goodie bag, but if I know I want to stock up on Estée Double Wear or something, I wait until free gift offers are on before I make a purchase. If only stores wanted rid of things more often! That sounds like it must have been such a good day xx

            • I would buy something if the freebie was good enough though. It’s definitely a good idea to wait for an offer before stocking up though. I haven’t tried that foundation, but so many people say how good it is xx

        • It’s a little bit disappointing to be honest. I think 17 is really good now, their concealer and mascara gets rave reviews. You know when you pay quite a lot for something like 7 you expect it to be a bit better. Maybe I’ve just picked the wrong products

  3. Wow you have a lot of great products! I’ve been catching up on your blog so here comes all my comments! I’ve always wondered about that benefit fake-up concealer. I have dark under-eyes so it might not have as much coverage as I need. It would be nice if Sephora had a sample of this. Also I just commented about the BM mineral veil powder sample that I’ve been using a bit ago! I am actually almost out and I think that I will have to get a new one. I like how it is so finely milled. I’ve been using tarte’s foundation which reminds me of the BM foundation you talked about. I’m not that knowledgeable about foundations. I also just picked up the benefit porefessional because I loved the sample card I got. It helps quite a bit! Sephora got me with that one because I picked up a smaller size and she said well you could get twice as much for 12 more dollars. Lol so now I got the deluxe size so I hope I continue to like it.

    • I am very dark under my eyes too, like it looks like I constantly have black eyes. I don’t think fakeup has the best coverage you will find, but I also have the problem of fine lines and dry patches under there, so it’s good for that. It blends very well, but I think I actually need a shade lighter. I have medium, and it matches my skin well, but for brightening effect not really. Boing from benefit is very good at concealing, but on me it creased. In terms of foundations, I have three. The bm one which I will always use, Laura geller baked and a liquid offering in the form of benefit hello flawless. I like all three. I can’t wait for tarte to come to the U.K! Qvc have stocked the lipgloss, but it’s the complexio stuff I am really excited about. I may well pick up their foundation if it’s good.
I think you will like professional, I love it, although I’m not actually using it just now as I’m trying to let my skin breathe. I had a bad reaction to a moisturiser and it’s quite red. Wow what an essay.
Oh and I need to catch up on reading too. I got a fair bit done today and will get the rest tomorrow’s

        • I haven’t tried erase paste. I keep hoping they will do a kit with erase paste in it so I can try it out. With benefit I barely own any full size things as they offer so many sets and kits with minis I try those first. Have you tried it?
And no tarte here. 😦 not yet anyway. We don’t have bath and body works or covergirl either.
