My 1st Mac Product – Frost Lipstick in Angel

Mac Angel

Mac Angel

Like most people, I never tell my family and friends all the good things. Only the bad. I have a tough outer shell and I don’t like letting people break it. I guess this is probably down to being picked on when I was younger. I don’t really know, but I suspect it also affected me in the way of low confidence, self esteem and generally being quite socially awkward/shy. Anyway I am digressing slightly from the point of the story here and the point is I have a lovely boyfriend. Last weekend in Leicester he bought me this Mac lipstick and an Urban Decay palette. It was very sweet of him. We were walking past the Mac counter in Debenhams and I mentioned how I would love something and he dragged me over and picked this lipstick for me. It wasn’t his first or second choice, but those were really not my style, so we settled on this one. The Mac experience was horrible, people pushing past to get in at things and the shop assistant even managed to bruise my knee when she viciously shut the drawer on my leg. How rude. So onto the lippie!

Packaging

I love how chic the black plastic tube looks on my dresser. I know it’s only a lipstick, but it just looks expensive and I have it pride of place at the moment. The tube feels really sturdy and the lid clicks into place, meaning no opening in your bag. Big winner from me.

Colour and Application

Angel is a frost finish lipstick and is one of 30 available from Mac. They have an absolute enormous range of colours, I was kinda speechless when I saw the tester stand. After a scout around on the lovely inter web, it appears that you can also but Angel nail polish (we all know I don’t need that) and lipglass. The colour is a medium-toned neutral pink with a little bit of silver shimmer. I think this shade would suit most people. The coverage is quite opaque, making this a perfect choice for those (like me) who are afraid of bold lips. I wish I was brave enough to wear bright pink, it looks fab on others, but I doubt I could pull it off.

In the tube again

I must apologise for the used lipstick in the pictures, I put this on as soon as we left the shop, I couldn’t wait. I was so excited. Application is good, the lippie glided onto my lips easily with its creamy formula. The thing I did notice was the smell. It didn’t smell like lipstick, it almost smelled a bit like cocoa. I’m not sure if this contains cocoa or not (I couldn’t see it in the ingredients list) but the smell was surprisingly pleasant. So far so good.

And again

Wear Time

I don’t know about you, but I can’t help but pout and lick my lips whenever I am wearing lipgloss or lipstick. Bad habit. This means I need to reapply often. I made a concious effort not to one day for the sake of a review and I can tell you I got around 3 hours wear from this without any eating. I thought this was pretty good. Β I didn’t find this dried my lips out at all – nor did it accentuate my lines. Now I know you are probably sick of my rambling, so I will leave you with a swatch while I go and prepare for work tomorrow.

Final Thoughts and Where to Buy

Overall I really like this and I am pleased with the shade Woody chose me. I can wear it during the day or at night, so it is very versatile. I love the formula – it is so creamy and applies like a dream. I will definitely treat myself to another lippie from Mac, but maybe after I have been on holiday. We are looking at going to New York for 4 days in June for my 24th. Geezo I am getting old. Time to start saving the pennies.

You can buy Mac lipsticks in the like of Debenhams and House of Fraser and from Mac online for Β£15.

So now I have the Mac bug, what other shades can youΒ recommend? Has anyone tried their paint pots or blushers? They look amazing.

    • It’s a great colour, but quite pricey. I probably wouldn’t have bought one if woody hadn’t got it for me. I think if I get birthday money or anything I might buy another in a darker colour xx

  1. That lipstick looks lovely, congratulations on getting your first Mac product! I haven’t tried them out yet. I have exactly the same problem as you on the only telling people the bad things thing. I think part of it comes from not wanting to be *that* girl who always goes on about the nice things her boyfriend does, because people tell you off for being vom-inducing when you do.
But it’s a vicious circle because then people get the wrong impression when they only hear about the bad stuff. Well done for breaking the cycle and telling us about the lovely things Woody bought you! That’s so sweet of him πŸ™‚ which palette did you get? xx

    • I feel that now I’ve tried Mac and nars that I’m a fully fledged blogger ha. Still never tried origins or clinique though, so I need to get shopping. Oh the excuses I use to shop. I just feel a bit sick when people go on and on about their boyfriend’s and how they are so amazing. But this was very sweet of him. I was impressed. He got me the anarchy face case, it’s reduced to 21 go debenhams (so is the shattered one), so he got me that too. I haven’t managed to try it yet as its a going out palette for definite. Packed with glittery shades and a bit more in your face than shattered. Xx

      • Oooh sounds like Woody did well! That palette sounds looovely. Can’t wait to see a review! Yes you should be chuffed with yourself for trying Mac and Nars, I haven’t sampled the delights of either yet! Woe. But then I am a big fan of Clinique and Origins so swings and roundabouts i guess πŸ™‚ xx

        • I know, he did do well. And I hope I like this palette as much as the shattered one, it’s my go to palette at the moment. Has everything I need. I really need to try some origins. There’s just too many brands and too little time and money. Xx

  2. This is a great review. I own a few MAC products (all lipsticks). I do love them. Luckily for me the one in my Macy’s is generally pretty slow and the sales associates are nicer.

    • Awh thank you. Which lipsticks do you have? I’m planning a darker one for fall. It was mega busy, maybe because if you spent Β£30 they were giving you Β£5 off, I don’t know.

      • I have quite a few. Rebel and Chili are my favorites. They also have a deal at my store where if you keep the packaging, for every few empties you bring back (3 or 5-can’t remember), you get free lipstick.

  3. Oh this is a lovely shade. I love all things MAC, they are my go to brand. I don’t really mind paying a little extra as all my MAC products last me for a really long time. Their Pro Longwear concealer is amazing, the best I have used. I love their paint pots, my eye shadow doesn’t move all day. Their blushers and powders are the best I have tried. I love a bold colour of lipstick, Rebel, Hang Up and Impassioned are my fav at the moment πŸ™‚ xx

    • Awh thanks for the heads up on what to buy. I’ve been looking at the paint pots and trying to decide whether to get one or not. I’ve just got a colour tattoo and they look pretty similar, so probably don’t need it. As for concealer, I swatched it in London last year, but decided it was too expensive. I wish I had bought it. Maybe next time. Xx

      • I got my concealer in the duty free at London airport for Β£12.50 so it’s worth picking up if you are ever there πŸ™‚ I have seen a few similar paint pot products out there, I am sure they are all great. I actually found a little one in a Benefit palette I got a few years ago and its great. I just got a neutral shade in the paint pot but apparently darker shades give a really intense look so I am intrigued πŸ™‚ xx

        • Oh my mum actually mentioned she got an eyeliner for 12.50 in the duty free, but I wasn’t sure how much they normally cost. I had one of the benefit cream shadows but it dried out quickly 😦 I will have a look for similar products x

      • The blush are really good, I really use a tiny amount so I think its going to last a while and its worth every penny. Id like to try and get some more πŸ™‚ im new to mac as well I bought the blush n a foundation for my first purchase. And I bought a brush n fixing spray for my 2nd. All are being used but the foundation is not a wow product which is a shame.

  4. Great review! I would have picked a color like you because I’m afraid of bold lips as well. Love the color! That’s sad that the lady bruised your leg! I always feel like the Mac shop at mall of america looks overwhelming. It’s always crazy busy so I always walk passed. I was also carrying a sigma bag so I would have probably got dirty looks for buying from a competitor. New York sounds fun! I’ve never been there. Lol you’re not old, only 24. I’m 25 will be 26 end of this year. My brother will be 30 and my other 28 which is crazy! At least you’re still closer to 20 than 30.

    • Ooh thanks πŸ™‚ I would love to buy everything, but think I should probably use some of the stuff I already have. I think I want another lipstick and maybe a blush though

  6. Welcome to the other side! The beautiful thing about MAC products are that they are essential fail-safe. I’ve been a long time buyer and lover of their products, and have yet to be disappointed (I personally don’t recommend their Special Edition brushes, but I know plenty of other people who think they are fine) – sometimes a colour may not end up suiting you, but it’s never the fault of the product.

Great plan to visit NYC! πŸ˜€

    • It is an amazing product. I love it. I really wanted to buy some of the Rhianna stuff, but it sold out so quickly. I’ve heard some people have broken out with their foundations, so might avoid those but excited to try more. Especially eye products and blush. X

    • Awh thank you πŸ™‚ it really is a lovely shade. I should have done a lip swatch, but have a big blemish. Boo. I must agree though, it wouldn’t have been my choice if the other half hadn’t really liked it xx

  7. Once you go Mac you never go back! Or you do, but always end up comparing haha. I’ve had Mac lipsticks before and I really enjoyed using them, I just can’t afford it all the time. πŸ™‚

    • He doesn’t do this very often, normally when we go shopping he can’t stand me spending five minutes looking at beauty. So it was extra special that he got this. I think he liked the name of Angel. It’s hardly surprising that there are some dupes in Macs colour range, they have so many of them! Thanks for stopping by x

  12. Great story, your BF is sweeeeeeet! I totally feel you on the MAC thing. everyone acts crazy in that second and MACs staff can’t even apply stuff to their face properly, let alone anyone else. They all look like drag queens! I’d prefer to browse them myself as they get everything wrong.

    • He has his sweet moments like this. I find Urban Decay MUA’s are the worst. The one in my local tried to foundation match me and went 3 shades darker than what I would normally wear. Ooompa loompa ahoy. I’ve never really had any dealings with Mac MUA’s so can’t comment on them getting it wrong or not! Have you had bad experiences? xx
