Benefit It’s Potent Eye Cream

I think I’ve mentioned this wonder in passing a few times before. I love it. I initially got a miniature version of this in the Little Love Potions Kit I bought last year to sample a few Benefit products and I was not disappointed. I have suffered from Dark circles for as long as I can remember. I can remember being in primary 6 at school and sitting in the classroom next to a really tall lanky girl. I was paranoid about my legs being bigger than hers and was wearing the oh so fashionable lycra shorts. It wasn’t a fat comment that stuck with me, it was a black eye comment. This little girl who was from a pretty rough family and was always a bit smelly had the cheek to tell me it looked like I had two black eyes. Since then I have been paranoid about my dark circles. Countless people have commented and nothing, I mean nothing shifts them. This cream hasn’t shifted them but it has helped the dry patches a lot and I think they are a tiny bit lighter but I could be imagining things.

What Benefit Say…

‘Your eyes can’t keep a secret…they’re the first to show signs of age & stress. It’s potent! eye cream fades dark circles & helps smooth fine lines for brighter, younger-looking eyes. Contains a peptide complex known to help restore elasticity & firmness, a blend of hydrating botanical extracts and loquat extract, known to help protect the skin from free radical damage.’ – Benefit

The faux cork lid

What I Say…

I love the glass jar with the faux cork lid, it is very chic and elegant and looks great on my dresser. I need to be careful with the glass jar as I already smashed a glass bottle of Bio Effect Serum – D’oh. The cream has a slight scent to it, but nothing too offensive. It’s a difficult smell to describe – just very fresh and clean smelling. The ingredients of this are pretty disappointing as it contains loads of parabens and alcohol. Parabens are used as a preservative and I wouldn’t expect a high end and expensive eye cream such as this to contain them. Sadly it does contain parabens but this isn’t enough for me to stop using it (unless someone comes up with solid evidence to say parabens cause cancer, in which case I will stop using immediately).

Look how retro the glass jar looks

The texture of the cream is quite thick and when applied to the eye area it has a lovely cooling effect. I usually dab my ring finger in this and dot it under my eye and on the lid and it is quickly absorbed. You know sometimes you get moisturisers or creams that totally ruin the way makeup is applied, this doesn’t do that. It is really light once on the skin and absorbs so quickly but I usually wait 10 or 15 minutes before applying any makeup. I’ve found this to be really moisturising and it has helped my dry under eyes so much. The claims of reducing dark circles, it hasn’t got rid of mine but I don’t think anything ever will and to be honest I didn’t expect it to. I really love this stuff – I had two miniature jars prior to purchasing this big jar and I know it will last me a while so it worth the splurge.

Final Thoughts and Where to Buy

I really do adore this eye cream and I think I’ve found the perfect one for me. I have struggled in the past with so many duds and for a while just didn’t use one. I now have a few fine lines under my eyes and it makes me wonder that if I had used one religously would I have these lines? When this runs out I will repurchase as I think it is worth the splurge. You can buy a 14.2g pot from Benefit for £25.50.

Have you tried any of the Benefit Skin care line? What’s your go to eye cream? Does anyone else suffer from dry patches around the eyes like me?

  1. I love this 🙂 iv recently been using it in a tester but will definitely treat myself to
    full sized jar xxx

  2. I have the same trouble with dark circles. They never really bothered me til someone pointed it out, like what happened to you. I was working in a department store at the time, and one day the cosmetic ladies ganged up on me to address them. I remember thinking, “what’s the big deal?!” I was 17 at the time! Now of course they drive me crazy. Only one product ever helped and it’s a concealer that’s been discontinued for a couple years. Not sure what I will do when it runs out. If I ever find anything worthwhile I’ll be sure to post all about it!

    • I’ve tried so many things and nothing shifts them, so now I just don’t care. It’s more awkward when people point them out and I’m just like this is my normal face haha. That’s brutal of those cosmetics ladies, some of them are total jackals though. Even when you walk in the store they are pouncing trying to give you a makeover with the latest and greatest product that you absolutely need. I feel like this cream maybe lightened them a tiny Little bit, but it could be my imagination. It is fantastic at keeping the area hydrated and I think that maybe when I have dry patches it makes the circles look worse? Xx

      • Dry patches won’t help for sure. I was always suspicious that having really deep set eyes never helped the issue. I always liked my deep set eyes personally, and I’m just noticing you have rather deep set ones as well. Just a theory that the shape itself contributes to the darkness? Ah well guess we have to live with it!

  3. I love this eye cream! I was always stealing my mom’s but I finally caved and bought a jar of my own! My favorite drug store eye cream is the Olay Age Defying Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream. It is very moisturizing!

  4. I’m super curious about this. I have tried other products from this Benefit line and I found them way too heavy for my skin. This one looks like a keeper though-very informative post!

    • I’ve generally found the skin care to be pretty good. They do a six piece kit for 12 of minis which I got to try everything out. I just love this so much and would highly recommend it

  5. I think you shouldn’t give up on the circles. Elizabeth Arden and old henricksen have some good eye potions. Onejar of prevage though pricey will change your life.

  6. I totally know what you mean about the dark eyes. I have pretty fair skin and I feel like a lot of it has to do with genetics. I feel like I will always have dark circles because my veins are just closer to the top because that skin is pretty thin and delicate. I always get the comments about my dark undereyes, especially after my night shifts. Its hard, I wish they would go away. I have yet to find my cream, but you have me intrigued to try this one because I also get dry patches under my eyes. Maybe, I’ll ask Sephora for a sample. The concealer Effie sent me is really helping cover them (as best they can be.)
