Getting Handy – a Hand cream for Every Budget

Hand Cream Comparison|theLittleScottishcCorner

My top hand creams

Hand cream is something I use every day, sometimes even several times a day. With so many hand creams on the market, what makes a good hand cream? Is it worth paying above the odds for hand cream or can you get away with a budget version? I thought it was about time I compiled my favourites into one list:

Inecto Pure Coconut Hand Cream Review |theLittleScottishCorner

Inecto Pure Coconut

Low Budget

Inecto Pure Coconut Hand & Nail Cream – 99p for 75ml from TJ Hughes

This is currently out of stock on the TJ Hughes website, but as with most things from TJ Hughes it is probably worth having a rummage. Yes TJ Hughes has a lot of cheap junk, but I’ve found Rimmel 60s polish in there for 99p rrp £3.99 before. The packaging has changed since I got this tube, but the formula is still the same. I really liked this hand cream and wish it was available in the likes of Boots and Superdrug. I actually managed to nab a new tube of this in a shop called BodyCare on Saturday. Winner.

Pros

– Really Cheap

– Smells very strongly of coconut

– Formula is non greasy and leaves my hands soft and smooth

Cons

– Difficult to get hold of

– Contains glycerine, which may irritate some peoples skin

– Also contains parabens

Rating 4/5

Soap and Glory Hand Food Hand Cream Review |theLittleScottishCorner

Soap and Glory Hand Food

Mid Budget

Soap and Glory Hand Food – £5.00 for 125ml from Boots

This seems to be a firm favourite with beauty bloggers and I am no different. I don’t think it is the best hand cream out there, but it is readily available and does the job. I have gone through countless tubes of this and keep coming back for more, even though it isn’t my favourite.

Pros

– Powerful and sweet smelling

– Absorbs well

– Easily available

– Attractive packaging

Cons

– Seems to leave my hands greasy

– Not great if you have irritated hands or broken skin

– A little bit runny

– Parabens!

Rating 3.5/5

L'Occitaine Hand Cream Review |theLittleScottishCorner

L’Occitaine Hand Cream (the ones I could find!)

Mid- High Budget

L’Occitaine Shea Hand Cream in Various Scents – £8 for 30ml from L’Occitaine

This is my all time favourite hand cream and I have so many tubes scattered around myself. One on my desk, in the car, in my bag, jacket pocket, makeup bag, bathroom, nail box. It is a great all rounder in my opinion and the little tubes do pack some punch. I’m surprised I haven’t mentioned this before.

Pros

– 13 different scents to choose from

– Comes in such a small tube, handy for travel

– Contains up to 20% shea butter so massively moisturising

– Lovely thick formula

– Lasts for ages as you only use a tiny drop

Cons

– The price

Rating 5/5

Neom Morocan Blush Rose Hand Cream Review |theLittleScottishCorner

Neom Morocan Blush Rose

High Budget

Neom Complete Bliss Morocan Rose Hand Cream – £20 for 75ml from Neom Organics

I got this in my advent calendar last year and I really love it. The formula is a cross between thick and runny, but it is the smell I love. Anything Rose scented is a winner in my books.

Pros

– Smells of lovely Roses

– The scent lingers for a while after applied

– Absorbs quickly

– Chic packaging

– Organic

Cons

– The matte white tube gets dirty easily

– Very expensive

– Tube doesn’t last as long as I would like for the price

Rating 4/5

So that’s it! My favourite hand creams for every budget.

Have you tried any of these? What can you recommend a girl with problem hands like me uses?

  1. There’s nothing wrong with parabens. They’re just a preservative which makes products last long – parabens are even found naturally in food like blueberries. They just get a bad rep because of one bad scientific study.
One of my favourite hand creams is Neutrogena, but it can be a bit sticky due to the glycerine. At the moment I’ve been using a hand cream with Argan oil in it which is lovely – not greasy at all and doesn’t irritate my eczema. I got it from iherb.com, and it’s called Madre Labs Hand cream with Argan Nut Oil

    • Thanks for the comment. I’m a bit wary about using things with them in it because I’ve read a few papers and articles on how they have been found in cancerous tumors. By papers I mean scientific papers/journals not newspapers lol. I think I’ve tried the neutrogena hand cream before and wasn’t keen as it didn’t smell of too much. Xx

      • Hi Jacquelyn.
My name is Michelle and I am the Senior Brand Manager for Inecto. Thanks for including our little hero product in your line-up. Just wanted to update you on one of the points you raised. The tube you have is one of our older packs. We have since relaunched the hand & nail cream with parabens, a claim we make across the entire range now.
For those having problems finding it, Savers, Bodycare and Amazon should all be able to help you out.
Thanks again and what a great blog! 🙂

        • Thanks for your lovely comment Michelle. I actually managed to track down the cream in Leicester just this week 🙂 so now I don’t need to ration myself. I will definitely be trying out more of your products in future now I know where to buy them. I will update my post and let everyone know that savers stocks your range. Thanks again for taking the time to comment. Xx

    • I’ve used the crabtree and Evelyn la source before, along with the scrub and although I liked it, I didn’t like it as much as my beloved loccitaine. I think my mum had the rose one before and it did smell delicious.

    • You need to try loccitane, it’s my absolute favourite. It’s very moisturizing and really thick, I think it would be great for your chapped hands. Only down side is the price is quite high. I’ve currently got Jasmine and a rose tube at work. They both smell delightful.

        • Qvc UK sells it, and they often do sets of Little 10ml hand creams and 60ml shower gels etc which are perfect for trying out or travelling. Maybe qvc in the state’s would do the same thing?

            • 😮 qvc is one of my favourite sites! I know it has a reputation for being a bit old lady, but when they do their today’s special value, the prices are so cheap. They recently had 7 bottles of opi for 35, when they are normally 11 each! I sometimes like watching it too for the tips. I’m so sad aren’t I?

            • Lol Jacquelyn that doesn’t make you sad! It makes you a savvy shopper! Who wouldn’t want a good deal on opi?!? I just haven’t heard much about qvc so that is why I haven’t shopped there. I’ll have to check it out.

            • Maybe it’s a bigger thing over here with us having a distinct lack of sephora. Who knows. I think it used to be quite rubbish, but they do really nice brands now like bareminerals, philosophy, Laura geller and elemis. I’ve been so sad I’ve set an alarm for a today’s special value before haha.

  2. I quite like the neutrogena one for budget buy and I havent really found a high end that I love.

PS. I thought id share some science with you… parabens can’t enter the skin since we have a enzyme which breaks it down on contact, and are found in food’s like carrots, olives, cucumbers, so theres no point giving up on skincare since its naturally occurring in certain vegetables… 🙂
